Welcome to CuredbyChrist.org

This web site was built to give hope and direction to anyone who has ever tried 12 step programs and never felt completely fulfilled. Even after staying clean for a while, 12 step programs just never filled that void in your gut.

What 12 step programs can do for you.

A 12 step program can get you off the booze or drugs and off the streets, clean you up enough to clear your mind so you think clearly. They offer little when it comes to lasting contentment.

Why 12 step programs can't "cure" you.

When I was a member of a 12 Step program I was told that I would never be "cured'. It sends the wrong message. If you hear that enough you will eventually believe it. This web site will attempt to offer anyone willing to overcome addiction...HOPE!

The first twelve-step program, was founded in 1935 by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, known to AA members as "Bill W." and "Dr. Bob", in Akron, Ohio. They established the tradition within the "anonymous" twelve-step programs of using only first names. In 1953 AA gave permission for Narcotics Anonymous to use its Steps and Traditions.

As AA was growing in the 1930s and 1940s, definite guiding principles began to emerge as the Twelve Traditions. A singleness of purpose emerged as tradition five: "Each group has but one primary purpose -- to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers."Consequently, drug addicts who do not suffer from the specifics of alcoholism involved in AA hoping for recovery technically are not welcome in "closed" meetings for alcoholics only. The reason for such emphasis on alcoholism as the problem is to overcome denial and distraction. Thus the principles of AA have been used to form many numbers of other fellowships for those recovering from various pathologies, each of which in term emphasizes recovery from the specific malady which brought the sufferer into the fellowship.

Today's 12 step programs tell you "you will never be cured" from your disease. I beg to differ, when you study the history of early AA, the pioneers of that group made it clear that submission to Jesus Christ was the only cure. But...you can be cured. When the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous was written some very important truths were left out. From their fear of offending people and their desire to attract a more broad range of people the writers altered words like "submit your life to Christ" to "belief in a 'Higher Power'". I believe everything happens for a reason...so, I think God had a plan and let the writers of the big book alter this however they needed to. I didn't want to hear anything about God when I first entered the program in the early 1990's. I would have darted the other way on their first mention of God.

I ask you to examine the facts for yourself. Search the History of AA, then search the Scripture. You will find answers.
